New EWU Application Dates
Published: May 02, 2011
CHENEY, Wash. - As a result of the increasing demand for a high-quality, affordable education in this difficult economic climate, Eastern Washington University will be implementing application deadlines earlier than in past years.
New freshmen applications for the fall 2011 quarter will not be accepted past May 15, and new transfer applications for the fall 2011 quarter will not be accepted past July 1. These deadlines are in keeping with other peer institutions. Applications remain available for next year's winter and spring quarters.
"Eastern takes pride in creating opportunities for all students," said EWU President Rodolfo Arévalo. "But with state budget cuts to higher education adversely impacting the university, EWU must actively manage our resources to continue to deliver the high-quality education that our students deserve. Eastern is taking this step to ensure the university's capacity is sufficient to ensure our commitment to academic excellence."
To date, Arévalo pointed out, freshmen applications at Eastern are up by 19 percent from the same period a year ago, and transfer applications are up by 35 percent. The university is coming off two consecutive years of record enrollment, with 10,750 full-time equivalent students on campus to start the current academic year.
More students are turning to Eastern because they recognize the outstanding value of the academic programs at the Cheney and Riverpoint campuses. EWU's cost of attendance remains the lowest of the four-year state institutions.
"The university will continue its commitment to access and excellence," noted Arévalo. "We plan to work with our community college colleagues to identify other higher education opportunities for students so that they have pathways to achieve their dream of a college degree."
