Lavender Graduation Set

Published: April 13, 2011

CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University will host its second annual Lavender Graduation ceremony from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 21, in the Showalter Hall Rotunda, on the Cheney campus.

The Lavender Graduation, which is sponsored by the EWU Pride Center, is a cultural celebration that recognizes LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning) students and their allies of all races and ethnicities. The ceremony will acknowledge the academic achievements of the students, and raise awareness about their contributions to their respective schools and to the community at large.

The keynote speaker is Sarah Toce, the nationally recognized editor-in-chief of The Seattle Lesbian. The ceremony will also honor faculty, staff and fellow students, whom the graduates have nominated to receive special recognition for their support, encouragement and inspiration.

Eastern is also inviting students from Spokane area high schools and colleges who are graduating this year, or who have recently graduated, to participate in the ceremony. Participation is free, and graduates will receive a rainbow tassel and a lavender stole. The registration deadline is April 15.

For additional information, or to receive registration and nomination forms, contact the EWU Pride Center at 509.359.7870, or pride@ewu.edu.
