Sixteen EWU 1+2+1 Students from China to Arrive Mid-August
Published: August 10, 2011
CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University is honored to receive a new cohort of 16 international students from China as part of 1+2+1 Sino-American Dual Degree Program on Aug. 16, 2011. Students will engage in the intense English proficiency TOEFL prep program prior to the beginning of the fall quarter. The program will be administered by the Division for International and Educational Outreach with close collaboration with English Language Institute (ELI) colleagues.
In 2005, Eastern became the seventh U.S. university to participate in the 1+2+1 Sino-American Dual Degree Program jointly initiated by the China Center for International Educational Exchange (CCIEE) and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).
More than 1,000 students have participated since the program's inception in 2001. Today, 81 Chinese and 19 U.S. universities are actively involved in the program. To date, 46 Chinese students have graduated from EWU with dual degrees. In addition, EWU has hosted 12 visiting scholars from Chinese 1+2+1 partner institutions over the past three years.
EWU currently has dual degree articulations in accounting, biology, chemistry/biochemistry, computer science, electrical engineering, finance, geology, management (optional concentrations in general business; operations management; human resource management), management of information systems and marketing.
More than 50 percent of EWU 1+2+1 students are on the Dean's List every academic quarter, which requires a GPA of 3.5 or above. The 2011 EWU 1+2+1 graduating class included 22 students, 12 of them were honored as 'outstanding graduates' based on academic achievement.
