University Honors Program and Scholarship

The Honors Program at Eastern Washington University cultivates excellence in undergraduate education by providing enhanced educational opportunities to superior students and special teaching opportunities for outstanding faculty. New freshmen and transfer students are eligible for the Honors Program and four-year Honors Scholarships (worth $3,000 to $6,000 per year). Freshman applicants should have a minimum 3.60 cumulative high school GPA and superior SAT reading and math scores. Presidential Scholarship

New freshmen entering EWU Fall 2012 may automatically qualify for the four-year, $2,500 per year Presidential Scholarship. There is no application. Washington resident students who apply for admission to EWU by Feb. 15, 2012 will be considered. To qualify, students must have a 3.80 or higher high school GPA or a 1250 or higher SAT sum of reading and math scores (or comparable ACT).

Dean's Scholarship

New freshmen entering EWU Fall 2012 may apply for the four-year, $1,500 per year Dean's Scholarship.  To be considered, complete the 2012-13 EWU Scholarship Application before February 15, 2012. To compete for the award students must have a 3.50 or higher cumulative high school GPA and a 1000 or higher SAT sum of reading and math scores (or comparable ACT).

EWU Special Honors Scholarship - National Merit Finalists or Semi-Finalists

Students named National Merit Finalists (or semi-finalists) and who enter Eastern as a beginning freshman fall quarter 2012 may be eligible for a four-year, $3,000 EWU Scholarship. For consideration, submit verification of your National Merit Scholar status to the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.

Eastern Advantage Scholarship

Eastern Advantage is a personal academic support program that provides first generation college students with the tools and resources necessary to succeed in achieving their goal of attaining a college degree. Up to 250 Eastern Advantage Scholarships worth $1,500 each are open to freshmen who are a 1) 2011 high school graduate, 2) first generation college student (neither parent holds a four year degree), 3) Washington resident, and 4) U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. All new freshmen meeting the aforementioned criteria will automatically be considered for an award. To find out more, visit the Eastern Advantage Program or call them at 509.359.6505.

EWU First Scholars

In partnership with Project S.T.E.a.M., EWU offers 15, $2,000 two-year scholarships to students who:

  • Participated in a FIRST Tech Challenge, a FIRST Robotics Competition or Project Lead the Way during high school
  • Enter Eastern as a beginning freshman fall quarter 2012 AND
  • Plan to pursue a degree in engineering, technology, mathematics or computer science at the Cheney/Riverpoint campus

For consideration, submit verification of FIRST or Project Lead the Way participation to the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.

Running Start Scholars

To support our former EWU Running Start participants, EWU offers 30, $1,500 scholarships to students choosing to attend EWU immediately following their high school/running start studies. Recipients must have completed at least 30 EWU running start credits with a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA by Fall 2011 for 2011-2012 award consideration. To apply, complete the 2012-2013 General EWU Scholarship Application on or before February 15, 2012.
