Teacher candidates at Eastern Washington University are personally guided through the most challenging and comprehensive education preparation program in the State of Washington. Our faculty and staff are among the most dedicated and nationally recognized professionals in the field of Education.
What are the degree options?
Bachelor of Arts in Education (BAE)
We prepare teachers to teach at the elementary and secondary level in compliance with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).
To obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree, a candidate must satisfy the General Education Requirements (GERs), Professional Education Program requirements and major/minor fields of study requirements of Eastern Washington University.

Master of Education (MED)
Master of Education degrees are available to certified teachers who wish to continue their education in one of four Curriculum and Instruction options or Literacy. Non-certified candidates may pursue an MEd in Adult Education, Foundations of Education or Instructional Media & Technology.

Other Certiication Options
Master in Teaching (MIT)
A program designed for those candidates who desire an MEd degree and a Washington residency teaching certificate. Candidates may pursue MIT Secondary (5-12) or MIT Elementary (K-8).

Certification Only - Post Baccalaureate
Students who already hold a bachelor's degree can pursue Washington residency teaching certification as a post-baccalaureate student.

Residency Principal Certification
Candidates can complete a residency principal certification through an educational leadership master's degree program. For those candidates that already hold a master's degree in an educational field, a post-baccalaureate certificate option is available.

Certificate Program
Instructional Media & Technology
Designed for P-20 educators, corporate trainers, military trainers, health professionals, and other professionals who want to improve their capacity in using existing technologies and appropriate instructional methods to improve instruction.

What can I do with my degree?
Graduates with a BAE degree and State of Washington Residency Certification may teach at the appropriate grade/subject level in public or private schools.
Certificated teachers may pursue a master's degree to advance their knowledge in the Education field and with their district.
Non-certificated master's graduates may pursue adult education and associated positions in the public or private sector.
Education graduates may be eligible for education related positions in business and industry in the public or private sector.
Recruiters on the EWU campus frequently ask for Education majors to interview for their jobs due to the Education majors' outstanding communication and teaching skills which apply to many areas of business
