Bachelor of Arts in English Education

Students will reflectively assess their own ongoing development as teachers of English/Language Arts, as well as demonstrate their competence in established national standards (such as the guidelines of the National Council of Teachers of English) in content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and professional disposition.

English/Elementary Major (45 credits)

This major satisfies the endorsement for grades 5-12.

Requires a minimum grade of 2.5 in each course, and at least a 3.0 average for the two courses together. (See Admission Requirements for remaining requirements for the common departmental pre-major.)

Secondary English Major (BAE)

Effective for secondary education students declaring major Fall 2008 or later.
This major satisfies the endorsement for grades 5-12.

Prerequisites required for admittance into Education Program: WEST-B Test, ENGL 101 and 201, Computer Literary, CMST 200, MATH 115.

Pre-Major Requirements: 15 credits

ENGL 201 Or equivalent satisfaction of University Proficiencies in Writing
(Minimum grade in ENGL 201 or equivalent is 2.5)
ENGL 271 Introduction to Poetry (5)
ENGL 270 Introduction to Fiction (5)
or
ENGL 273 Critical Methodologies (5)

Students must complete ENGL 271 and their choice of either 270 or 273, with
minimum grades of 2.5 in each, and at least a 3.0
average for the two courses together, before enrolling in 300-level core courses.
Recommended: HUMN 210 or 211, for fulfillment of the GECR in Humanities.

Take EDUC 201, CEDP 302, and CEDP 363. (These three classes can be taken prior to being admitted into the Education department)

Begin Education Program: Take EDUC 200, 303, 419, concurrently.

Note: To qualify for student teaching, students must have a 2.5 minimum grade point average in their major, and no major course with a grade below 2.0 may be counted towards the degree.
