English Placement Test
The English Placement Test is given to new or transferring students who are unable to be placed by an ACT/SAT or TOEFEL score. Students should set up an appointment with their advisor before scheduling an English Placement Test
Note: If you are a "new" Running Start student, who has never taken the English Placement Test, contact the Running Start office at (509) 359-2867.
Availability:
The English Placement Test is given on two Thursdays a month throughout the calendar year. The English Placement Test is not given on the weeks of final exams, holidays, or during the spring and winter breaks. However, students can schedule the test throughout summer.
Format:
The English Placement Test consists of a timed essay with a prompt that is provided by the English Composition program.
Evaluation:
After students complete the English Placement Test, faculty in the English Department will evaluate the test and student's placement will be decided. The student will be contacted when placement has been determined. Placement into any of the following courses is possible, dependent upon on a student's writing skills:
English 112
English 100
English 101
English 201 (required of all EWU students to graduate)
Procedure:
1) Please call (509) 359-7064 to schedule a date and time for the English Placement Test. If unable keep test appointment, please cancel before appointment if possible.
2) Students should go to Student Financial Services to pay the English Placement Test fee.
There are two locations for Student Financial Services: Sutton Hall - hours of operation are 8am-5pm, M-F, (509) 359-2321; and the Phase I building located at 668 N. Riverpoint Blvd. in Spokane, call for hours of operation, (509) 828-1394/1395.)
3) Bring the receipt and student ID to the test site on the scheduled test date.
