Minor in English as a Second Language
Students who take this 29-credit program can earn a minor in English as a Second Language. Those students who are K-12 certified or working towards certification to teach K-12 through the Department of Education can earn a minor Endorsement in English Language Learners. This program (known as ESLG) brings together a diverse group of students interested in cultural and linguistic difference and dedicated to assisting language learners.

What will I study?
Print out and compete the ESL Minor planning form and give a copy to Dr. Hermes in Patterson 358.
Take one of the following preferably BEFORE beginning ESLG courses:
ENGL 360 Language Structure and Use (5)
ANTH 445 Anthropological Linguistics (5)
Take all of the following preferably in this order in one academic year:
ESLG 480 Second Language Acquisition and Instruction (4)
ESLG 489 Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in the Classroom (4)
ESLG 484 Supporting Second Language Literacy (3)
ESLG 481 Methods and Materials for Teaching ESL (4)
ESLG 488 Second Language Literacy Theories (3)
ESLG 493 K-12 Literacy Assessment and Placement (3)
ESLG 486 ESL Practicum (3)
Note: If ESLG 494 is not offered but 493 is, students may take 493.
