    Dr. García-Sánchez obtained a Licenciatura in Spanish Philology from the University of Salamanca, Spain (1989), and a Master of Arts (1993) and a Ph.D. from Arizona State University (1996). His research focuses on the 18th and 19th century Transatlantic travel narrative, with special interest on logs written by Spanish explorers in the Pacific Northwest. His line of research in this corpus of study is founded on Discourse Analysis and Postcolonial Theory.

     

    Dr. García Sánchez has taught all levels of Spanish at EWU. He is the Director of the Summer Program in Salamanca, Spain.

    Barbara Loste holds a B.A. in Art from Immaculate Heart College, Los Angeles, an M.A. in Communications/Latin American Studies from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico City. In 2000, she completed a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies at Gonzaga University, Spokane.

    At EWU, Barbara Loste has taught beginning and intermediate Spanish and Introduction to Hispanic/Latino Literature. She functions as a team leader for EWU’s Advanced Languages Program in the high schools.  Previously, Barbara directed 1492: An Ongoing Voyage, a bilingual exhibition at the Library of Congress, and was a consultant with the USDA Forest Service for development projects Central America and the Caribbean.  She has lived and worked throughout Latin America, has traveled in Spain, and enjoys exploring cultural diversity with her students.

    In her free time, Barbara likes to paint, garden, travel, and watch films. She volunteers with the Spokane Arts Commission, the Museum of Arts and Culture, and Hermanas Spokane, a non-profit organization that supports rural women and their families in El Salvador.

    Florian Preisig is from Geneva, Switzerland. He has a BA from the university of Geneva and a PhD from Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore). He is a specialist of Renaissance French literature. His book Clément Marot et les métamorphoses de l’auteur à l’aube de la Renaissance was published in 2004. It is a discussion of the condition of authors in the years 1500s through the analysis of early editions, commercial practices, self-promotion, patronage, and so on.

    Florian Preisig became associate professor at Eastern Washington University in 2009. He teaches French language at various levels, French culture and civilization, and French literature (seventeenth century, eighteenth century).  In the Honors program he teaches “Intellectual tradition: from the middle ages to the Renaissance.” He is in charge of the French program and co-directs the Nice Program and the master’s program.

    In his spare time he likes to coach U-8 soccer, play tennis, read, garden, listen to music, and eat out.
