The Department of Music welcomes students who seek careers in music and also provides music instruction and experience for the general university student. Four degrees with a total of eight options are offered for students who wish to become teachers, performers, composers, conductors, theorists, or scholars. A music minor is also available.
Opportunities also exist for private instruction in voice and instruments, as well as participation in musical ensembles-chorus, band, orchestra, opera workshop, chamber groups and music theater.
Numerous public concerts and recitals are presented throughout the school year by faculty and students of the Department of Music.
The goal of the department is to provide students with musical instruction and experience of the highest possible quality. Our belief is that the study of music significantly enables students to become informed, responsible and appreciative members of a democratic society-which is a professed goal of Eastern. We recognize differing needs of those for whom music is to become a profession and those for whom it will be an avocation or a listener's art.
