Degree Options

  • Bachelor of Music

    The Bachelor of Music (BM) degree is intended for students planning professional careers as performers or composers. Students entering this major are required to have a high level of competence in their chosen performance area. As with all EWU Music Degrees, students are required to pass an entrance audition to be accepted as a music major and pass upper level juries to complete their degrees.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Music: Liberal Arts

    The Bachelor of Arts in Music (BA) is recommended for students interested in general studies in music or planning to pursue graduate studies in music history and literature or composition. As with all EWU Music Degrees, students are required to pass an entrance audition to be accepted as a music major and pass upper level juries to complete their degrees.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Music Education: Instrumental, Choral, General:Elementary or Secondary

    The Bachelor of Arts in Music Education (BAE) is recommended for students planning for careers in music education. As with all EWU Music Degrees, students are required to pass an entrance auditon to be accepted as a music major and pass upper level juries to complete their degrees.

  • Music Minor

    The Music Minor is a 16 credit minor designed to fulfill the minor requirements for other degrees. It does not fulfill the requirements of a music education endorsement.

  • Master of Arts in Music

    Students intending to pursue the Master of Arts Degree in Music must hold an appropriate baccalaureate music degree from an accredited institution. All applicants will be required to perform a successful audition in their major area, (see audition guidelines) submit the GRE score results* (General Test) and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students may submit an un-edited recording of their performance in lieu of a live audition. Students who are pursuing teaching careers, conducting, composition, performance, and/or a combination of those areas in music can work with faculty and graduate advisors to enhance the program to specifically suit their needs. *The GRE requirement may be waived in certain situations. See the graduate program advisor for exceptions.
