Recreation Management

There are many emphasis areas in recreation management. Students learn how to program and manage private, public and nonprofit enterprises. They learn both business and recreational skills. Recreation management is a growing and dynamic field, with tourism as one of the top business activities. (Recently, the Kiplinger Magazine listed hotel management and recreation as one of the eight occupations with the highest career prospects).

We would like to show you our excellent facilities. That way, you can really see what it would be like to be a recreation student. The Recreation and Leisure Services Program is located in Cheney, in the PEHR complex, and our department staff will be happy to arrange a tour for you.

Students in recreation management develop competencies in administration and management, business principles, legal foundations and risk management, facility planning and maintenance, assessment and evaluation, emergency medical skills, activity programming and leadership. Our goal is to provide students with core skill sets and competencies that allow for adaptability and success within a wide range of professional settings.
