Before coming to Eastern, he was an employment and career coach for several non-profit organizations.
Rick has been advising undergraduate students at Eastern for over ten years. He especially enjoys assisting students transitioning to Eastern and helping them match their interest, strengths and goals to academic majors and careers.
Rick Davidson splits his time between GUAA and the college. He is a great first step in the advising process. As you zero in on your major you will want to get connected with one of the many faculty who can advise you. There are several important considerations for you to keep in mind.
First, avoid self advising. We are here to help you. While you should be active in choosing your major, and in charge of your own destiny, your classes and your career, do remember that we want to work with you.
Second, by paying attention to sequences of courses and understanding your curriculum, you can often achieve several goals at the same time. Some classes will count in more than one category. For example, international communication is an upper division GECR, and it counts in both the communication minor and the leadership certificate...and it is a great class too!!
Finally, don't wait until after you have declared your major to meet with a departmental advisor. Meeting with this individual early helps you to think about the sequence for your major.
Sabrina Meyer-Quiroz

She attended Eastern Washington University, earning a BA in Graphic Communications in 2002. Currently, she is working towards a Master's degree in Communication Studies.
Eagle pride runs through her family. Sabrina is a 3rd generation Eastern graduate. A very early EWU memory she fondly recalls is spending time in the PUB during spring breaks playing video games. Reminiscing about her Eastern experiences, she notes that the Cheney campus has improved greatly over time. From grass worn pathways to paved heated walkways, and cold brick lecture halls to comfortable technology enhanced classrooms and work spaces, the campus just keeps improving the whole college experience.
As an Academic and Admissions Advisor for the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and Social Work, Sabrina's passion is higher education with an emphasis on leadership opportunities. She thoroughly enjoys working with students of all backgrounds and teaching students how to navigate and negotiate the system at EWU. She has special experience working with Transfer Students as well as First Generation Students in particular. She stays informed on the intricacies of the transfer process and advising needs of students in transition.
Personal Experience on Academic Advising:
As a student, I had to learn to appreciate my academic advisor. Once I figured out that he was my greatest advocate, I learned to use him as a regular resource and sounding board. When I finally decided on a major, I transitioned to my major advisor who was just as resourceful, but in a different way. I depended on both of my advisors for guidance and assistance when needed. Looking back, I wish I would have utilized them more.
Diane Somerday

She completed both her BASW and MSW at Eastern and was an academic advisor for the School of Social Work's BASW program for 11 years. She also taught Intro to Social Work and was a past Faculty Field Instructor, supervising students in practicum. Diane started her 12th year at EWU as of October 2010, and is now the Coordinator of Graduate & Undergraduate Studies for The College of Social & Behavioral Sciences and Social Work. She advises undergraduate and graduate students, focusing on issues relating to program requirements. She develops relationships with students to help them navigate the academic system. Students who seek out advisors often find the unforeseen bumps and gullies easier to manage. Diane is skilled at helping students make decisions and assume responsibility for their academic outcome. She has worked with hundreds of students and to this day considers it an honor to be part of each academic journey.
