ROTC Cadet Activities
As a proud member of the Eastern Washington University and Cheney communities, we strive to be actively involved and to be a positive contributor to campus activities, student life, the city of Cheney and the surrounding communities.
Color Guard
The cadets in our program have, for many years, performed as the honor guard at the EWU Eagles football games, the VFW Veterans Day ceremony and parade, the Eastern Washington University Homecoming parade, the Founders Day ceremony, the Commencement ceremony, Memorial Day activities, the Benefactors appreciation reception and dinner, held at the Davenport Hotel, and even Spokane Chiefs hockey games.
Blood Drives
The Fighting Eagle Battalion hosts annual blood drives at Eastern Washington University.
Cannon Crew
EWU ROTC owns and operates a 1942 75 mm howitzer, that we fire off at Eastern football games. Every time the Eastern Eagles score a touchdown, we fire off a round that is guaranteed to fire up the crowd and set off a few car alarms. Cadets get to load and fire the cannon. If they are real lucky, they get to help clean it as well! We tow our cannon with a 1952 Willies Jeep, painted bright red to show our Eastern pride.
Intramural Sports
Every year, the Eagle Battalion Cadets put together teams that compete in basketball, volleyball and softball.
Ranger Challenge
Each fall, our ROTC program fields three Ranger Challenge teams. Ranger Challenge is a competition between in-state ROTC battalions in different events, including weapons assembly/disassembly, physical fitness test, rope bridge, grenade toss, land navigation course, and a full-gear five-mile run. Each year, the Ranger Challenge competition is held at a different school.
