Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
1. Who can apply? You must be a licensed dental hygienist in the United States and graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program with an associate's degree and a minimum 2.5 GPA.
2. When are the classes held? Classes are held evenings, weekends, via distance learning/online, or a combination of online, face-to-face, and/or with the use of Interactive Television, depending on your location.
3. What time do the classes meet? Evening classes are typically from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Saturday schedules vary depending on campus location, but generally are conducted in a full day seminar format.
4. How long is the program? Designed for the working adult, the curriculum is two years part-time with no more than 10 credits per quarter. Applicants may have the option to complete the curriculum in one year. Please contact the Co-director at the campus site for details about this option.
5. May I continue working? Most students continue to work four days per week when completing the curriculum in two years. They continue their private lives without much issue. For completion in one year, it is recommended working no more than two to three days per week. Please note that each person is individual and this is merely a guide.
6. Do I need to do more clinical instruction? No clinical component!
7. How much does it cost? Tuition will be $198.00 per credit starting fall 2011; however, additional fees may vary. EWU endorses the advanced degree for all dental hygienists and remains one of the least expensive degree completion programs in the United States.
8. Can I qualify for Financial Aid? Applicants with questions about eligibility and availability of financial aid are invited to visit the EWU Financial Aid and Scholarships webpage or contact:

11. What if I have course deficiencies in university requirements? Upon completion of a formal transcript evaluation, applicants will receive a letter notifying them of the results. If additional coursework is required, the applicant must successfully complete this coursework prior to graduation from the program.
