At EWU Cheney Campus the APTP Mathematics Placement Test is administered in group sessions limited to 50 examinees; scheduled by Department of Mathematics. Examinees are required to pre-pay & pre-register for a test session. For test pre-registration details refer below to section: "Before Test Session". When you are unable to pre-register for a test session bring your receipt & photo-ID card to testing room for consideration, as "Standby Examinee". The Pre-registered & Standby Examinees will need to arrive at least 15 minutes early for check in of examinees. Please plan to be in the testing room for at least 90 minutes.
Before Test Session:
- Pre-Register for a test session at least 48 hours before the date... by sending an e-mail message to (math@ewu.edu) provide the following information: (1) Full name of examinee; 2) EWU ID# or birth date; 3) Date of requested test session; and 4) phone number. Also provide answers to relevant questions...Have you taken the APTP MPT before? If yes, did you take an Intermediate, General or Advanced test type? When & where did you take the APTP MPT?
- If you do not have internet access, then at least 48 hours before the test session call (509) 359-6225 or go to the Math Department in Kingston Hall 216 to pre-register for test session.
- If you have a documented disability that requires special accommodation, then contact Disability Support Services Office in Tawanka Hall 124 or call (509) 359-6871.
- Examinee will need to decide what math placement test type they will take, as described below.
General test has 35 questions from the topics of Intermediate Algebra and is taken by an examinee who passed through equivalent of Algebra II in high school and plans to take Math 104A&B, 114, 105, 115, 200, 211 or 311.
Advanced test has 30 questions from the topics of Precalculus I & II. At EWU this test type may place you into Math 105, 106, 115, 200, 311, 380, or 161. Placing into MATH 161 will meet the Mathematics Reasoning Proficiency Requirement for non-math related majors. If your score is below 147 on the Advanced Test, then to identify a math course placement you will need to retest or take the General Test.
An examinee who earned grades of A or B in high school Precalculus or grade of A or B in high school Calculus and graduated or will graduate from high school within the last year may qualify for special placement consideration. To determine your elgibility after taking the APTP MPT, click on the following link: Math 106 or 161 Enrollment Exception Policy. - Without use of a calculator practice samples problems for test type you plan to take. Click here for MPT Practice Problems & Objectives or pick up booklet from Kingston Office 216.
- Before your test session examinees are required to pay the $25 MPT Fee by any method:
* EWU students with ID# > 1) Log into EagleNET; 2) Select Pay My Bill; 3) Select a Term; 4) Select Make a Payment; and (5) Select to Pay Optional Fees.
*Non-EWU students without EWU ID# are required to pay the fee in Sutton Hall on 2nd floor. - Bring your receipt or admission ticket & photo-ID card (high school student card, driver license, or military card) to the testing room since they are required at check-in of examinee.
- Bring two #2 pencils to the test session. The scratch paper will be provided & collected by Test Proctor.
At the Test Session:
- Examinee is required to present their photo-ID card & receipt to the Test Proctor.
- Calculator or any other similar aid and/or notes are not allowed during the test.
- Scratch paper will be provided and then collected by Test Proctor.
- Examinees are allowed 60 minutes to finish the test. If possible, Test Proctor will dismiss examinee(s) from testing room who finish test early.
- An examinee is allowed extended time to finish their test only when they made prior arrangements with EWU Disability Support Services Office Tawanka Hall 124 or (509)359-6871.
After the test session:
- Examinee will need to find their test score by following these steps: (1) Log into EagleNET; Select Student > Student Records > SOAR Degree Audit; (2) Click the Request Audit button to run a New Audit; (3) Click on Run Selected Programs and select "Department" to drop down menu and select *Test Score then scroll to bottom of page and Click "Run Audit". (4) When Audit opens scroll to the end of page and click words "TEST SCORES" to view test score.
- Examinee without EagleNet access will need to obtain their test score results by an option below.
* Bring their photo-ID card to Math Dept. Office 216 in Kingston Hall or an Academic Advisor.
* At least one day after test session, call the APTP Office at (206) 543-1790 or e-mail
aptp@u.washington.edu and request they send your official score report to you. - To determine your math course placement results, look up the test type & score on APTP MPT Cut-Off Scores Chart. When your test score placed you into several math course options, register for the course that will satisfy your general education mathematics requirement. When in doubt about this, please ask your Academic Advisor what math course you should take.
- Examinee who placed into college level math by the APTP MPT and graduated from high school within the last year, should refer to our MATH 106 or MATH 161 Enrollment Exception Policy and determine their eligibility.
- Examinee who wants their test result reported to a community college or another university will need to do the following: Contact APTP Office by e-mail aptp@u.washington.edu or phone (206) 543-8499 and request for them to mail an official score report to your home. When examinee receives their official score report they need to submit it in the original sealed envelope to the institution they will attend. Note: The APTP Office will only send an examinee's official score report to a university participating in their program, such as CWU, EWU, WSU, WWU, and UW.
Retest Policy:
An examinee may take the Intermediate/General or Advanced test type twice within any 12-month period, with a minimum two-week waiting period between retaking the same test type. However, an examinee who took the Advanced test may is eligible to take an Intermediate/General test when next offered, and vice versa. Note: Payment of $25 MPT Fee is required for each test.
