Degree & Program Options

  • BAE Mathematics/Elementary (K-8)

    This degree provides students with a strong background in the mathematical concepts they will need for teaching mathematics to students in elementary school. In addition to gaining a strong understanding of mathematical content, students learn to engage elementary school students in hands-on activities that promotes their understanding of difficult concepts

  • Middle Level Math Endorsement

    Three Options are Outlined in the Overview

  • BAE Mathematics/Secondary (5-12)

    The BAE Mathematics/Secondary degree provides students with a strong background in mathematical concepts they will need for teaching mathematics to students in school at secondary grade levels. In addition to gaining a strong understanding of mathematical content, students learn to engage secondary grade level students in activities that promotes their understanding of difficult concepts.

  • Secondary Mathematics Endorsement

    A Mathematics/Secondary Endorsement is generally required in order to teach mathematics at the secondary level (Grades: 5-12). This endorsement may be obtained through a BAE Secondary/Mathematics Major or Minor.

  • MA in Teaching K-9 Mathematics

  • BA Mathematics

    The program leading to the BA in mathematics is especially strong, and is unique within the region. The department strives to promote excellence; it fields teams for the Putnam competition and prepares students for actuarial exams. It also sponsors a chapter of the mathematical honor society, Pi Mu Epsilon. Recent graduates are successfully pursuing careers in industry or doctoral work at top-level universities.

  • BA Mathematics (Statistics)

    The program of study that leads to an option in statistics provides students with excellent preparation for actuarial exams or careers where statistics is used in applied research.

  • BA Mathematics (Economics)

    Students with an interest in the application of mathematics to economics are encouraged to pursue the Economics Option of the BA in Mathematics. This program requires courses in economics, and it requires mathematics courses that are used in the study of advanced courses in economics.

  • BA Mathematics (Computer Science)

    Students with an interest in mathematics and computer science pursue this program of study, and it provides them with knowledge and skills that are attractive to a broad spectrum of employers.
