Veterans Electrical Engineering Initiative

EWU has received a National Science Foundation grant to offer a specially-designed Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering degree to military veterans.

This innovative program will bring a cohort of at least 15 students to EWU spring 2012, to begin an intensive two quarter preparatory sequence of math and success in college. Students will then progress through the full EE curriculum, focused initially on foundational knowledge in calculus and physics leading to the heart of the degree program to be completed summer 2015.

Tentative schedule

To increase your chances of success, make sure to plan ahead and take the MATH placement test (either the intermediate level test or the advanced level test depending on your proficiency level). The MATH placement test can be taken at many locations statewide including EWU. See the following link for more information.

Who should apply

  1. This program targets Post 9/11 GI Bill veterans
  2. Participants should enter this program with a firm understanding of their existing VA eligibility benefits, as the Veterans tuition waiver is not guaranteed as a supplement upon exhaustion of VA entitlement
  3. Veterans Bridge Program in Spring & Summer 2012 is ENGR499, an approved elective in the EE program
  4. Participation in the Math classes offered in Spring 2012 and Summer 2012 is not required for students who have successfully met those Math requirements. Students not participating in the Math classes should work with their academic advisor to enroll in other required classes.
  5. Summer quarter 2012 is a unique quarter requiring enrollment in a minimum of 12 credits for full VA benefits.

What are the degree options?

The BS in electrical engineering combines studies in physics, mathematics, science, electricity and electronics to prepare students to solve real-world problems in electrical engineering. The curriculum allow students to first establish a solid foundation in mathematics and sciences, and then introduces them to a broad spectrum of electrical engineering course work.

What can I do with my degree?

The primary objective of the Electrical Engineering Program is to prepare students to enter and progress in electrical engineering positions in business, industry and government. Graduates are generally expected to work in the research and development of ideas, products and processes by applying engineering principles to the solution of practical problems in the electrical engineering field.
