Graduate Assistantships and Tuition Waivers

Each year, EWU awards a limited number of tuition waivers and other forms of support on a competitive basis through the Graduate Studies Office, upon recommendation from an academic program or administrative office, to graduate students of outstanding promise. Departments recommend students for awards from annual departmental waiver allocations. Follow the links below or on the left menu for information about the three tuition waiver programs administered in the Graduate Studies Office.

Graduate Service Appointments

Available to qualified Washington resident or nonresident graduate students upon departmental recommendation; most awards include tuition waiver, stipend and health insurance eligibility; recipients work 20 hours per week teaching, supporting teaching or providing administrative service.

NRTS Waivers

Available to qualified nonresident graduate students upon departmental recommendation; waives a portion of nonresident graduate tuition so that the recipient's net charge is equal to 150% of the resident graduate rate in their program; may not be combined with other tuition waiver awards; no university service required.

WICHE Waivers

Available to qualified nonresident graduate students from one of 15 western states upon departmental recommendation in one of five programs: Creative Writing, Dental Hygiene, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Social Work; waives a portion of nonresident graduate tuition so that the recipient's net charge is equal to the resident graduate rate in their program; may be combined with resident-level graduate service appointment; no university service required for the WICHE award.
