GSA Health Insurance
Graduate students with a graduate service appointment (GSA) are eligible to enroll in a health insurance program, with the premium paid by Graduate Studies. The plan covers medical expenses up to $75,000 per condition, with a deductible of $150 per benefit year. GSA students are not automatically enrolled in this plan; they must opt in by completing the enrollment form before the end of the first week of classes at the start of their appointment. You will receive an email with enrollment instructions by the end of August. Other graduate students, along with undergraduates, are also eligible to enroll in this plan, but they must pay the premium. Further information about this option for non-GSA students is available from the office of Health, Wellness and Prevention Services.
This insurance plan provides coverage in case of a serious illness or injury requiring hospitalization. This plan is separate from and in addition to the student health clinic services provided by the comprehensive health and wellness (CHW) fee. Students enrolled for six or more credits in fall, winter or spring quarter are automatically charged the CHW fee on their student account. The CHW fee is not automatically charged to students taking fewer than six credits in any quarter during the regular academic year or to students enrolled in summer session. These students, in order to have access to health clinic services, must choose to pay the CHW fee. The GSA insurance plan does not cover many clinical services provided by the CHW fee, and the CHW fee does not cover hospitalization for serious illness or injury. For more on student health clinic services and the CHW fee, follow the link to the Health, Wellness and Prevention Services site above.
