Prepares pre-service and in-service teachers of speakers of English as a second language (ESL), or a foreign language (EFL), to teach second language literacy, culture, and communication skills.

Quarterly admission; GRE; if English is not first language: (1) TOEFL score of 580 (paper), 237 (CBT) or 92 (iBT) and (2) personal or telephone interview with graduate program director; foreign language requirement for all students. Feb. 1 application deadline for fall admission for those seeking a graduate service appointment as a teaching assistant.
