"The illiterate of the future will not be the person who cannot read. It will be the person who does not know how to learn." ~Alvin Toffler

For hundreds of years we have exchanged knowledge through printed materials.  Reading has been an important skill for using the written word. Digital Natives are those individuals who have grown up with computers and the Internet since infancy (approximately 25 years old and younger). There is research that suggests that they view a page, learn, and interact with information in different ways than previous generations. They do, however, still read-web pages, text messages, books, magazines, e-zines, tweets, commercial ads, and maybe even an occasional textbook or instructional manual.

Information, across all disciplines and in all formats, provides the foundation for the quantity and quality of conversations among students and faculty.  Understanding how to access, analyze, snythesize, and apply information are essential learning skills for success in the 21st century.

In support of academic and student success, Eastern Washington University Libraries stimulate and support intellectual inquiry. EWU Libraries provide access and services for students, faculty, and staff to a world of information and discovery at their fingertips locally and globally.
