Steps to Apply

The freshman application for admisison for fall 2012 is no longer available. Transfer students may still apply for admission for fall 2012.

Eastern Washington University offers students a high-quality education at an affordable cost. Eastern has a beautiful 300-acre campus in Cheney, Wash., a small community of 10,000, with ample recreation and social opportunities, all located 16 miles from Spokane, Washington's second largest city. In the fall of 2011, 12,130 students enrolled in Eastern's more than 100 fields of study.

Applying and being admitted to Eastern Washington University is a manageable process if you have taken the time to review all of the steps, required application materials, and deadlines.

 

Step 1 - Apply for Admission to Eastern Washington University by the appropriate deadline.

Step 2 - Identify your Applicant Type if you do not know (Freshman, Transfer, Post-Bac)
Step 3 - Complete the Insight Resume
Step 4 - Submit $50 Non-refundable Application Fee
Step 5 - Request and submit required application materials depending on your applicant type to:

Once all of the application steps have been completed and all application materials have been received by our Admissions office, your application can then be reviewed for a decision. Our admissions criteria can be found here. Applications will be reviewed by the order in which they are complete in our office. Applicant Types and Required Application Materials

Please choose the applicant type that best suites you:

Freshman with no college credit

Freshman applicants are considered to be students who are currently in high school, home schooled, or will have completed a GED. If you are currently enrolled in classes identified as "college in the high school" you are considered a high school student as well.

Required Application Materials:

  • Official high school transcripts or official GED scores
  • Official SAT or ACT test scores

Freshman with college credit

Students who are currently in high school and are either currently enrolled or have taken classes in the past identified as "college in the high school."

Required Application Materials:

  • Official high school transcripts
  • Official college transcripts
  • Official SAT or ACT test scores

Freshman with Running Start credit

Students who have participated in the Running Start program while in high school will apply to Eastern as a Freshman Applicant. In addition to meeting the Freshman Admission requirements, they will also need to have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average in all college classwork.

Running Start students apply and transition to the university as an incoming freshman to keep them eligible for their full amount of financial aid. For this reason, Running Start students will need to attend Eastern's summer orientation program, FirstSTEP.

Required Application Materials:

  • Official college transcripts
  • Official SAT or ACT test scores

After being admitted, your college transcript(s) will be evaluated to determine class standing and class completion at Eastern. To gain a better understanding of what may transfer to Eastern Washington University, learn how to use the Eastern Transfer Guide.

Transfer Student

Any student that has either previously attended, or is currently enrolled at, a community college or four-year institution after high school graduation and/or has been granted military credit is considered a transfer student.

Transfer with 40 or more transferable credits-

Required Application Materials:

  • Official college transcripts from all institutions attended
Transfer students with less than 40 transferable quarter credits (24 years of age and younger)-

Required Application Materials:

  • Official college transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Official high school transcripts
  • Official SAT or ACT test scores

Returning Undergraduate (former student returning)

Students who have been formally admitted to Eastern and subsequently enrolled in one or more classes (even if the class was later dropped). Students are still considered a Former Eastern Student if college credits have been earned elsewhere prior to returning to Eastern.

Please note: Students who have previously enrolled as "Non-Degree Seeking" or through the Running Start program have not been formally admitted and must seek admission as a high school student or a transfer student.

Required Application Materials:

Note: If you were academically dismissed from Eastern, you must be reinstated prior to re-admission. To begin the reinstatement process, please contact your advisor in your major department if you have declared a major, or contact the office of General Undergraduate Academic Advising at (509)359-2345 if you are undeclared.

Post-baccalaureate

Any student who has already received a bachelor's or masters degree and now seeks to take undergraduate classes can apply for admission as a post-baccalaureate undergraduate transfer student. This includes students who received a degree from Eastern.

Required Application Materials:

  • Official college transcripts from all institutions attended.

Returning Post-baccalaureate

Any student who has received a degree from Eastern and now seeks to take undergraduate classes can apply and be considered for admission as a former student returning.

Required Application Materials:

Adult Learner or Non-Traditional Student

An adult learner or Non-Traditional Student is one who will be age 25 or older upon entering EWU with 0 -39 transferable college credits who meets neither the high school or transfer admissions criteria.

Required Application Materials (must provide at least two of the following four requirements):

  • Official high school transcript or a passing score on the General Education Development (GED) test
  • Official college transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Official SAT or ACT scores
  • Letter of recommendation that can speak to evidence of success outside the classroom and strong motivation to succeed in college
