Sustainability Symposium

Sustainability SymposiumSustainability Symposium, Sustainability, Symposium, EWU, Eastern Washington University

Join us next year for the 2nd Annual Symposium on Tuesday, February 24, 2015

EWU hosted its First Annual Sustainability Symposium on February 25th, 2014 in the Pence Union Building, MPR. The symposium was titled “Education & Adaptation for Sustainability” and brought together intellectuals, experts, practicing professionals, student and faculty groups, farmers, stakeholders, and community business representatives to share ideas and collaborate around sustainability. We believe that it is our responsibility to educate on the importance of sustainability and inspire student engagement on campus and throughout the greater community on sustainability initiatives. This day was a groundbreaking celebration for EWU, showcasing progressive projects on campus, building momentum around cutting edge sustainability practices throughout the community, and establishing EWU as a regional leader in sustainability.

The event  began with early morning check-in featuring a local direct trade coffee sampling by Roast House as well as two local henna artists. We welcomed Gloria Flora, Executive Director of Sustainable Obtainable Solutions, as our keynote speaker, a variety of main stage speakers, a locally sourced lunch, poster / breakout sessions throughout the day, and closing remarks given by Spokane City Council President Ben Stuckart.

The 1st Annual Winter Sustainability Symposium was very successful and groundbreaking for Eastern Washington University.  With the collective efforts and passion of the campus community, the event surpassed our expectations.  Thank you for being involved in the education and adaptation for sustainability on EWU's campus.  The evaluations clearly indicate our campus community stakeholders are already anticipating the 2nd Annual Winter Sustainability Symposium.
