26 Days of Kindness

  • The EWU 26 Days of Kindness Initiative was inspired by the national movement to honor the lives lost at the Newtown, Conn. shooting. Nearly 1,000 EWU students, faculty and staff members participated.

Inspired by the national movement that has risen out of the Newtown, Conn. shooting, Eastern Washington University's Office of Community Engagement (OCE) launched the EWU 26 Days of Kindness Initiative. The 26 Acts of Kindness quickly evolved as people around the country wanted to find ways to commemorate the lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The EWU project involved the university community and alumni, who planned at least one act of kindness during a 26 day period. About 3,000 acts of kindness were completed and more than 940 students, faculty, staff and alumni participated.

The initiative was rolled out on February 14, 2013 as a way of demonstrating EWU's "love and support" to the Newtown community.
