Evening with Bart Ehrman

Author of Misquoting Jesus visits...Bart Ehrman, misquoting Jesus, lecture

CHENEY, Wash. - Eastern Washington University and the Daniel and Margaret Carper Foundation are pleased to welcome Bart D. Ehrman, PhD, a leading authority on the New Testament and early Christianity, for an evening of insightful and intriguing conversation.

The lecture, Misquoting Jesus: discrepancies in Christian scripture, will begin at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 23, at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox in downtown Spokane. Ehrman's visit will mark the inaugural Daniel and Margaret Carper Foundation Lecture Series, which will invite scholars of national and international stature to lecture at EWU as well as to the general public.

Ehrman is the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The bestselling author has written more than 20 books, including four New York Times bestsellers: Misquoting Jesus, God's Problem, Jesus Interrupted and Forged.

His work has been featured in Time, the New Yorker, the Washington Post and other print media, and he has appeared on NBC's Dateline, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, CNN, The History Channel, National Geographic, the Discovery Channel, the BBC, major NPR shows and other top media outlets.

The Daniel and Margaret Carper Foundation supports and encourages the highest goals of the Liberal Arts tradition, skeptical analysis, the ability to critically analyze controversial ideas and theories, or those which clash with mainstream or common belief. It has shown generous support of EWU through the many scholarships endowed each year as well as in the creation of a Chertok Professor's Chair, the holder of which teaches at least one course a year dedicated to critical analyses of current academic discussions. This Lecture Series is a component of the Chertok course, with the speaker addressing students in the class.

Professor Ehrman's lecture is free and open to the public. A book signing in the lobby of the theater will follow the event. For more information about the event, contact Becky Chamberlain at 509.359.4860 or bchamberlain@ewu.edu. For more information about Bart Ehrman, visit www.bartehrman.com.
