Honors at Graduation

Students who complete the specified requirements will graduate with one of five Honors designations. Grades, in these courses, below 3.3 will not receive Honors recognition.

Ad Valorem

16 credits - Freshman Honors Sequence (Hons 101, 102, and/or 103 & 104 one-credit lab)  

16 credits total

Ad Valorem (transfer)

4 credits - Honors 301, Fall Quarter  

4 credits total

Ad Majorem

16 credits - Freshman Honors Sequence,  8 credits - Honors upper division courses 24 credits total

Ad Majorem
for upper division or transfer entry into Honors

12 credits - Honors-enriched Department courses,  8 credits - Honors upper division courses  

24 credits total

Ad Maxima Valorem

16 credits - Freshman Sequence,  12 credits - Honors-enriched Department courses,   12 credits - Honors upper division courses    

40 credits total

Being recognized as an EWU Honors graduate indicates that a student has taken full advantage of university learning opportunities, has a thorough grounding in the liberal arts and sciences, exercises initiative, works well alone and in groups, and has developed excellent writing, calculation, and critical thinking skills.
