The popularity of the art of Frida Kahlo generates a sort of legend about her life, career and persona that relies far too heavily on subject matter that only addresses her personal experience as a woman. Too often the aspect of her intent that deals with culture, politics, and the Mexican identity is overlooked. This presentation explores issues dealt with in Kahlo's art that address broader, more holistic concepts that extend beyond the individualism associated with the legend of her life.
