Abstract: The NAFTA Promise: Mexico's Haves and Have Nots

Mentor: Dr. Lynn Bownds, Economics

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) amongst United States, Canada, and Mexico was impemented on the fourth day of January 1994. I is now coming up on its tenth anniversary of its proposed fifteen year process. During this process, NAFTA has made promises that all the countries involved will benefit by experiencieng the following: economic growth, economic development, and increased trade. From the Mexican perspective, this study aims to examine if NAFTA has aided or hampered Mexico both economically and socially; if so, in what ways has it affected Mexico and it's people.
