Abstract: Self-Seving Bias and Happiness, "I Can Buy My Happiness but You Can't"
Mentor: Dr. Philip C. Watkins, Psychology
While many of us have been told that money cannot buy our happiness, in this study I explored if self-serving biases led people to believe they could. Participants rated a list of twelve items based on how happy it would make one of three people in the long-term: their mother, Average American individual, or themselves. I predicted that participants would rate typical lifetime and luxurious items as likely to bring them lasting happiness but not with their mother or the Average American individual.
