New FAFSA Start Date for 2017-2018

Oct. 1 is the new start date to apply for financial aid in the 2017-18 school year. This is a full three months earlier than in the past. The new start date is one of two changes to the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The second change lets students and parents use their 2015 tax returns for the second year in a row to answer income questions and import the data into the FAFSA through the IRS Data Retrieval tool.

U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens can file the FAFSA and students who are unable to file the FAFSA due to immigration status can file the WASFA. The WASFA is the Washington Application for State Financial Aid.  Prospective students, including DREAMers, should apply as early as possible.

Due to the earlier FAFSA/WASFA start dates, the EWU priority consideration date will change from February 15, 2017 to February 1, 2017 for the 2017-18 award year.

Application Deadlines for 2016-17

Students who complete the following applications by February 15, 2016 will receive priority consideration for EWU financial aid for the 2016-17 academic year:

FAFSA's received after February 15th are still considered, but awards are made on a funds-available basis and late applicants may not receive all the aid for which they might otherwise qualify. No EWU Scholarship applications will be accepted after February 15th, but departmental scholarship applications may have later deadline dates.  The 2016-17 FAFSA is used to determine financial aid eligibility through Summer, 2017.

"SALT" Financial Literacy Tool

We strongly encourage all student loan borrowers to utilize www.saltmoney.org,  a free service to all EWU students. With SALT, you can track and manage your federal student loans, learn of repayment options, budgeting techniques, and much more!

Cost of Attendance for 2016-2017

The estimated Cost of Attendance for 2016-2017 is available for your reference.  These are the standard "base" amounts used to determine your financial aid eligibility and have been adjusted to reflect the fifteen percent tuition reduction approved by the Washington State Legislature for resident undergraduate students.  Your final cost may vary.  Additional details are available on the Cost of Attendance web page.

Net Price Calculator (Freshmen)

The EWU Net Price Calculator (Freshmen) provides estimated net price information (estimated cost of attendance minus estimated grant and scholarship aid) to prospective freshmen based on what similar students paid in a previous year.  The calculator is currently undergoing update for the 2017-18 award cycle and will be updated shortly.

Net Price Calculator (Transfers)

The EWU Net Price Calculator (Transfers) provides estimated net price information (estimated cost of attendance minus estimated grant and scholarship aid) to prospective transfer students based on what similar students paid in a previous year.  The calculator is currently undergoing update for the 2017-18 award cycle and will be updated shortly.
