Awards won by past and present FILM and EMAF students.award, awards, festival, alumni, grad
  • Disintergration: The Life of Jonathon Willoughby, written and directed by Adam Harum (B.A. 2010) won Best Film honors at ReelSpokane's Spring 2010 Homegrown Film Event and ReelSpokane's Second Reel. Disintegration was written and directed for FILM 481/482. Harum received the Edmund G. Yarwood Award from EWU in 2010.

  • Battle's End, written and directed by Jon Barney, (B.A. 2010) screened at ReelSpokane: Second Reel. Battle's End  was produced FILM 481/482. The screenplay, an adaptation of Stephen Crane's The Upturned Face, was written in FILM 322.
  • Gone, written and directed by Isaac Joslyn, (B.A. 2010) screened at ReelSpokane: Second Reel. Gone  was produced FILM 481/482.
  • Taylor Adams' And I Feel Fine was selected for the 2009 Seattle True Independent Film Festival and won the Quicky Film Festival in Spokane. The screenplay, an adaptation of Stephen Crane's The Upturned Face, was written in EMAF 322. Adams (B.A. 2009) received the Edmund G. Yarwood Award from EWU in 2009.
  • Dead Air, written and directed by Colin Johnson (B.A. 2008), was selected to screen at the 2008 Spokane International Film Festival.
  • At the 2008 Student Research and Creative Works Symposium, Dead Air, was named winner of Creative Works Session 3.  Honorable Mentions went to God's Will, directed by PaWly P, and The Maltese Frankfurter, written and directed by Aaron Fink.  
  • The Maltese Franfurter, written and directed by EMAF senior Aaron Fink, won Young Adult Film Noir Festival co-sponsored by Spokane Public Library, Spokane County Library District and the Fairchild Air Force Base Library as part of the Big Read reading project.  
  • David McMullen's A Lovely Man screened at the Beverly Hills Hi-Def Film Festival in December 2006. McMullen (B.A. 2006) produced and directed A Lovely Man in EMAF 481/499.  The screenplay was written by Bryce Woodworh for EMAF 321 in 2005. McMullen received the Edmund G. Yarwood Award from EWU in 2006.
  • Inchelium, directed by Bryce Woodworth (EMAF, BA 2007) for the Colville musicians The Jim Boyd Band won "Best Short Form Music Video/DVD" at the Native American Music Awards, which was held in Niagara Falls, NY on Oct. 6. Woodworth produced Inchelium in Hi-Definition for EMAF 499 during Winter Quarter, 2007. "A Lovely Man," which Woodworth scripted, screened at The Beverly Hills Hi-Def Festival in Dec. 2006. He received the Edmund G. Yarwood Award from EWU in 2007.
  • Know It All by EMAF senior Adam Boyd won 1st place (The Uber-Awesome Golden Audience Choice Award Trophy) at the What the Hell Did I Just Watch Comedy Video Festival in Seattle. Festival organizers had asked Boyd to submit his film after they saw it at STIFF, a film festival in Seattle. Know It All had previously won Best Music or Video Presentation at the EWU Student Research and Creative Works Symposium. It was produced in EMAF 481.
  • The Monster in the Mansion, by Jeremy Lokken (B.A. 2004) won 1st place in the Animation category of the Crossroads Film Festival in Jackson, Mississippi. Monster was produced as Lokken's senior project in production.
  • Cut, a music video by Adam Penley (B,A. 2005), won 3rd place in the Music category of the 2004-2005 College Television Awards, also known as Student Emmys, which are given by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
  • The New Girl, a drama by Amanda Miseirvitch (B.A. 2004) won Best Student Film at the Forx Film Fest on November 12 and 13 at the Empire Arts Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Girl was produced as Miseirvitch's senior project in production.
  • Mayfield Jester, a short screenplay by Angela Schwendiman (B.A., 2000, M.A. 2003), was a 3rd place winner at the 3rd Annual American Gem Competition. Jester, an adaptation of Ring Lardner's "Haircut," was written as a graduate project.
  • Last Day, a short screenplay by Vincent S. Lombardi (B.A. 2004), was named to the Special Honor List of the 3rd Annual American Gem Competition. Day was written in Writing for the Filmic Arts I.
  • Late Fee, a short screenplay by Bette Jewel Eissler (B.A. 2004), was named to the Special Honor List of the 3rd Annual American Gem Competition. Fee was written in Writing for the Filmic Arts I.
  • Ghost Buster Gals, a documentary by Sean Puno (B.A. 2004), was selected to screen at the juried 31st Annual Northwest Film and Video Festival in Portland, Oregon. Ghost Buster Gals was a winner at the 2004 Student Research and Creative Works Symposium. Gals was produced for EMAF 410 in 2003.
  • The Chains That Bind, a narrative by Angela Schwendiman (B.A. 200, M.A. 2003), won Best Drama at the 2003 Moscow Kino Digital Media Festival. It was also awarded the Best Cinematography Merit.
  • The Nutcracker Suite, a music video by Joe Aikala (B.A. 2003), won 3rd place at the 2002 Academy of Television Arts & Sciences College Awards. Suite was produced in Intro to Electronic Media Production.
  • Uncle Charles, a documentary by Makaela Thomes (B.A. 1998, M.A. in progress), was a winner at Making Waves: National Student Festival in 2000. Uncle Charles was produced as Thomes' senior project.
  • Noticed, a narrative by Glenn Kannon (B.A. 1999), was a winner at the 1999 National Student Festival. Noticed was produced for Field Production II.
  • Silent Silent Nightt, a narrative by Steve Glines (B.A. 1998), was a winner at the 1998 National Student Festival. Night was produced for Field Production I.
  • Enter Sandman, a music video by Danele Ducharme (B.A. 1997), was Regional winner at the 1997 Academy of Television Arts & Sciences College Awards. Sandman was produced for Filmic Arts Directing & Producing.
