Degree OptionsEastern offers a wide variety of bachelor's degree paths for music students (BM, BA and BAE) as well as a music minor and a Master of Music (MM).
119 Music Building
Cheney, WA 99004
The Bachelor of Music (BM) degree is intended for students planning professional careers as performers or composers. Students entering this major are required to have a high level of competence in their chosen performance area. As with all EWU Music Degrees, students are required to pass an entrance audition to be accepted as a music major and pass upper level juries to complete their degrees.
The Bachelor of Arts in Music (BA) is recommended for students interested in general studies in music or planning to pursue graduate studies in music history and literature or composition.
The Bachelor of Arts in Music Education (BAE) is recommended for students planning for careers in music education: instrumental, choral or general (elementary or secondary).
The Music Minor is a 16 credit minor designed to fulfill the minor requirements for other degrees. It does not fulfill the requirements of a music education endorsement.
The EWU Music Department offers an exciting and rigorous Master’s program with concentrations in Performance, Music Education, Composition, and Jazz Pedagogy. There is also a General Master’s degree in music that allows students interested in other areas to create a curriculum that suits their needs. Members of the Music Department faculty are leaders in their fields.
