Ross Holcombe currently serves as the principal trombonist of the Spokane Symphony Orchestra. Outside of Spokane, Ross holds positions as associate principal/second trombonist of the Vermont. Symphony Orchestra and principal trombonist of the Plymouth and Neponset Valley Philharmonic. Orchestras in Massachusetts. Outside of his regular schedule, Ross makes frequent appearances with other orchestras such as the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Albany Symphony, Boston Philharmonic, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, New Bedford Symphony, Atlantic Symphony, and the New World Symphony.Highlights of his orchestral career have included performances conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, John Williams, Fabio Luisi, Rafael Frühbek de Burgos, Herbert Blomstedt, Michael Tilson Thomas, John Adams, and Hugh Wolff.
Outside of the orchestra, Ross has given recitals and other solo performances at the Florida State University and New England Conservatory and, as a younger musician, was heard as a soloist on NPR's radio show, From the Top. His chamber music performances have included collaborations with members of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and have taken him to all corners of the United States in addition to several cities across Japan. Ross has been an artist in residence for the Virginia Arts Festival and has been featured as a guest performer at the Eastern Trombone Workshop as a member of the Frequency Band. Equally at home as an educator, Ross currently serves on the faculties of Eastern Washington and Gonzaga Universities as adjunct professor of trombone, and has also presented numerous masterclasses for universities and high schools across the United States in addition to his private teaching.
Ross Holcombe earned his Bachelor's of Music degree in Trombone Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. His primary teachers have included Norman Bolter of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, John Drew of Florida State University, Grady McGrannahan of Drake University, Joseph Frye of the University of Tennessee at Martin, and Dale Moore of the Pershing's Own United States Army Band. Ross has also received fellowships to attend the Tanglewood Music Center, National Repertory Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival, and the National Orchestral Institute.
