Certified Public Accounting Requirements

Washington State requires the Accounting students meet additional educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam.CPA, Accounting, Accountant, Business

The State of Washington requires that people who want to take the CPA examination have completed 5 years of post-secondary education. The specific requirements are:

  • A bachelors degree
  • At least 225 total college level quarter credits (150 semester credits)
  • At least 36 quarter credit hours (24 semester hours) of business courses
  • At least 36 quarter credit hours (24 semester hours) of accounting courses

DOES THIS MEAN A MASTERS DEGREE IN ADDITION TO A BACHELORS DEGREE?

Not necessarily. There are several ways to satisfy the 5th year requirement. The Accounting Department at Eastern Washington University has a variety of programs that can help you obtain your goal of qualifying to take the CPA examination. Match yourself with one of the following categories and see some of the different paths that enable you to meet the 5th year requirement.
