Post Baccalaureate Program in Communication Disorders

The post baccalaureate plan prepares the student with course content applicable to the pursuit of a master's degree in Communication Disorders. Students are encouraged to begin the program in the Fall semester. Deviations require prior department approval. Prospective post baccalaureate students should complete the application form and contact the post-baccalaureate advisor to set up an advising appointment.

Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.75

Applications for post baccalaureate study are accepted March 15 to May 15th with confirmation required by July 1st.  Acceptance into the post baccalaureate program does not guarantee the student automatic acceptance into the graduate program in Communication Disorders. Post baccalaureate students must apply for graduate study upon completion of the curriculum.

The post baccalaureate program is on the semester schedule. This means the program begins approximatley the third week of August and ends early May. Required courses for the profession are guided by the knowledge and skills outcomes of the certification standards for the CCC-SLP as set forth by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) see http://www.asha.org. Required courses for the profession are guided by the knowledge and skills outcomes of the certification standards for the CCC-SLP as set forth by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) see http://www.asha.org.  The student must also demonstrate course work for each of the following areas: biological sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and the social/behavioral sciences. Beginning Fall 2014 the catalog states that the appropriate course work in biological sciences should emphasize a content area related to human or animal sciences. Acceptable courses in physical sciences should include physics or chemistry. Acceptable courses social/behavioral sciences should include psychology, sociology,anthropology or public health. Course work in math must include a statistics course. In addition, COMD requires coursework in interpersonal communication.  The supporting courses can be fulfilled at Eastern or at other colleges or universities.

The post baccalaureate option is designed for graduates from any discipline. The post baccalaureate student will study selected courses from the undergraduate curriculum.
