How long was your internship?
What was your job duties?
I assisted in all aspects of public relations campaigns, monitored media daily and I was personally in charge of developing a webinar series! I also got to assist in promotions, meetings and developed communications materials across all channels.
What were some of the steps you took to find this internship?
I applied to The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars and interviewed with several agencies until I found an organization where I would be able to learn and grow. My EWU Career Services liaison, Krista Benson, and my TWC advisor worked with me to help me focus what my specific goals were and find an organization that would allow me to work on those specific areas.
Over time, were there things you did personally to help you prepare for this internship?
I took advantage of every opportunity for professional development and continuing education in the field.
Got any personal advice for students who may be a bit nervous about stepping into larger internships or internships in general?
Do it. You will never regret it. You will figure it all out along the way.
Any additional Information?
I love Washington, D.C. Right now is such an exciting time to be in the nation's capital. I would highly recommend this kind of experience for everyone. Coming here has really helped me develop as a professional and I truly feel like I am on a whole other level... I'm not in Cheney anymore, that's for sure. I am looking at staying here and becoming employed with the firm I am currently interning for.
