How long was your internship?
3 months during the summer
What were your job duties?
My job was to contact vendors to make procurements for the company. My goal was to negotiate and save the company money and to adhere to all of the government regulations associated with each type of purchase.
What were some of the steps you took to find this internship?
I researched for internship opportunities online and networked with people that I had met at the golf course.
Over time were there things you did personally to help you prepare for this internship?
Yes, I focused on maintaining a high GPA and being involved in extra-curricular activities to build up my resume. I also focused on networking opportunities at EWU events and at the golf course to gain references and to expand my opportunities.
Got any personal advice for students who may be a bit nervous about stepping into larger internships, or internships in general?
Be confident in who you are and simply be yourself when you are applying or getting interviewed for the position. Train yourself to believe that you have something great to offer and that you are willing to learn how to be a successful and effective employee.
Personal Mantra (7 words or less)?
"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." ~ Philippians 4:13
Any additional Information?
An internship is extremely beneficial and effective in gaining real-world experience. Internships help you gain confidence when applying for jobs after graduation.
