Event Details

Dr. Majid  Sharifi's research focuses on the darker side of modernity. Sharifi claims that the colonizer and the colonized coproduce each other, as imperial nationalis coproduces what he calls subaltern nationalism.  In his recent book, Imagining Iran: the Tragedy of Subaltern Nationalism, Sharifi demonstrates how the struggle to make Iran into a nation-state in the image of imperial powers while rejecting imperialism, resulted in a violent cycle of regimes failure.
