Applying for Degree Candidacy
After you complete between 15 and 30 credits (on average between 2 and 3 quarters of course work) you must submit the Graduate Degree Candidacy form. Candidacy indicates that your committee members are prepared to support you to degree completion, and plan the specific course requirements for your degree.
In order to ensure that this step flows as smoothly as possible, make sure that you have previously formed your graduate degree committee. If you have not, see Forming Your Graduate Degree Committee. If you have, then complete the Application for Degree Candidacy online or pick one up in the Graduate Office in Showalter Hall. The Graduate Degree Candidacy form breaks your progress into three stages of development:
- those courses you have completed;
- the courses you are currently taking; and
- future courses needed to finish the program.
Also, each stage specifies whether the classes listed are part of your core component, your elective courses, and any special classes needed to finish the program. A clear illustration of how to fill out each stage can be found at: http://web.ewu.edu/groups/graduateprogs/candidacy_instructions.pdf
Once the form is completed, you must sign it yourself and get three other signatures of verification:
- your committee Chair,
- your second committee member, and
- the MSC Program Director.
Finally, once all the requirements for application have been met, the form must be sent to:
