The study of history provides a solid foundation not only for history and social studies education majors, but for careers in law, business, government, international relations, journalism, library services and museums, to name but a few.

The history department's annual awards and honors luncheon was held in PUB on May 30, 2014.
On May 2, 2014 Dr. Liping Zhu was unanimously elected new chair of the History Department. Afterward dean Vickie Shields administered the official appointment.
At the appointment ceremony incoming chair Liping Zhu pledged his faithful service to the department and college.
In March, 2014, four graduate students in public history presented their work on Spokane Historical at the National Council on Public History conference in Monterey, California.
History student interns are at the State Digital Archives in Cheney, learning traditional and digital archiving in a state-of-the-art facility.

Located on the EWU campus, the Washington State Digital Archives is the first built-from-the-ground-up digital archives in the world. EWU students in public history enjoy internships, learning experiences and even part-time jobs at the archives.
