What happens when a moose and a mouse decide to play hide-and-seek? This charming tale for children is part of a public art project funded by a grant from the Coeur d’Alene Arts Commission. Mudgy Moose searches high and low for his friend Millie Mouse, but Millie has found herself a very clever hiding place. Mudgy wanders from the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene through the picturesque town itself and then back to the lake before he finally discovers where Millie has hidden. Mudgy’s quest is whimsically illustrated with sparkling watercolors by award-winning artist and children’s book author Charles Reasoner.

To accompany the book, the town of Coeur d’Alene has commissioned five life-size bronze statues of Mudgy and Millie, which will be placed at strategic points along Mudgy’s route—now officially christened the Mudgy Moose Trail. Sales of the book will benefit the Coeur d’Alene Public Library Foundation.

Susan Hagen Nipp is the coauthor, with Pamela Conn Beall, of the celebrated Wee Sing series for children. Born and raised in Spokane, Washington, she earned a BA in music from Whitworth College and later taught both elementary and high school. In writing Mudgy and Millie, she was inspired by the classic children’s book, Make Way for Ducklings.

Charles Reasoner has been creating and illustrating best-selling children’s books for nearly thirty years. His imaginative and fun filled illustrations are colorful evidence of his belief that reading stimulates a child’s future creativity. Mudgy and Millie came to life in Charles Reasoner’s studio in Taos, New Mexico.
