Grabill's work is among the most unusual and most moving poetry being written in English. Charged with original and unexpected juxtapositions and with images of astonishing resonance and clarity, the poems argue passionately for the preservation of the world and for the preeminence of the life of the spirit. In the words of John Benson, "James Grabill is doing a theology of the deep image, a surrealism of cosmogenesis and subatomic physics." In addition, Patricia Goedicke has said, "Full of rich imagery and rolling rhythms, Grabill's work is often roaring and immensely `packed.' But there are plain poems, too, and lovely lyrics which rest in the specifics of a quiet natural world. There is lush attention to language, to the erotic side of life, and even to humor." An Indigo Scent after the Rain is a brilliant addition to the Grabill canon.

Poem Rising Out of the Earth and Standing Up in Someone
Poetry: $10.00; ISBN: 0-89924-086-0
"In Poem Rising Out of the Earth And Standing Up In Someone, James Grabill creates a new consciousness, one that dares to explore the myriad ways objects, events, processes and persons inter-relate to form incredibly complex and exciting realities. He uses words to merge these elements much in the way sunlight, water vapor, and the earth's rotation merge into the living complexity we call a hurricane. These poems can change your relationship to language, your epistemology, your dreams, and your life."
-Bill Tremblay, author of Shooting Script, Door of Fire

Listening to the Leaves Form

Poetry: $12.00; ISBN: 0-89924-096-8
"James [Grabill] is doing a theology of deep image, a surrealism of cosmogenesis and subatomic physics..."Deep image" in that the rollin' and tumblin' of associations (like blues or jazz) occur underground (intertwining roots), or within molecules, or between ideas and flesh, or among galaxies. Everything is connected and reflects. As John Muir noted, 'when we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe.'"
