EUCLID PARK
A dream has weighed on your chest so long
you cannot speak,
transforming instead from shadow to shadow
near the duck-pond in the park,
where sunlight glitters and gathers
and sometimes forms a swan.
The tall eucalypti wave
above the shadeless, acrid city,
breathless, lithe, like whores in Babylong
whose odors rose to hungry suns;
oiled and glossily they bend by the pool,
touching and troubling its brilliant water.
