The Press publishes books in four major areas: contemporary literature, literature in translation, academic and scholarly works, and non-fiction. Contemporary literature covers both poetry and fiction, and includes the publication of poetry and a short fiction prizes. Most of the literature in translation has been from both peninsular and Latino Spanish, although literary work from other languages is also considered. Our scholarly publishing is in literary criticism, environmental policy, Southeast Asian studies, and regional history. Popular non-fiction centers on the history, culture, literature, and public policy of the Inland Northwest and Northern Rocky Mountain regions.
Authors should consider whether their queries or submissions fit into the Press's publishing program. Potential books will be considered as to whether they are the results of scholarly or scientific research; original works of poetry or prose fiction; biography and memoir; or well-written works of general interest.
Query letters should be concise, and can include a table of contents and several chapters. A book proposal would be longer and provide description, market analysis, an annotated list of models and/or competition, and a biography of the author/editor, as well as the attachments. If we are interested, we will request a full manuscript. Correspondence and submissions should be typed.
We have enormous respect for our authors, and all submissions will be handled with care. However, we would urge you not to send original material unless we request it. Photocopies of photographs or other art are recommended.
Authors will be notified when we received their submission, and then when a decision about publication has been reached. Unsolicited manuscripts are welcome, but will be recycled unless accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope.
