The Met Children's Program / KPBX Kids' Concert on Saturday April 17, 2004
This year's Kids' Concert will feature Adventures of Riley.
In April 2003, Eaglemont Press
launched its new Adventures of Riley children's book series at the
Central Park Zoo in New York. This thrilling series, for children ages
4-8, offers an entertaining and educational look at such issues as
wildlife conservation, culture preservation, and habitat restoration.
Through the characters' zany misadventures, children are presented with
important concepts and life lessons which help them gain a better
understanding of themselves and the world they live in.
Writers in the Schools Day 2004
Writers in the Schools Day will be on Friday, April 16. Local writers,
poets and journalists pass the literary torch to the next generation.
By volunteering an hour or more in Spokane schools, writers can share
their passion for language and offer fresh pathways to vivid writing.
WISD organizers match writers with interested teachers or librarians.
Our goal for 2004 is to place 60 writers in area schools.
Authors Tour of Rural Schools
This pilot project will connect published writers with students
in rural Eastern Washington schools. During the heart of the
school year, authors of children's and young adult books, poets
and more will travel to rural schools from Ritzville to Republic,
sharing their work, teaching and inspiring. More than 20 school
districts have indicated interest in the program.
