Why give to Eastern Washington University?
- In 1980, the state accounted for nearly 80 percent of Eastern's annual operating budget. Today, state support is below 40 percent. Tuition, fees and charitable support must fulfill the shortfall.
- Many students cannot attend college without support from generous donors. Whether students are attending classes in a state-of-the-art classroom, receiving an endowed scholarship or listening to a lecture from a professor funded through an endowed professorship, your donations help. Only 1,000 students each year receive a scholarship from Eastern. However, many more qualified students do not receive scholarships and continue to have unmet needs.
- Did Eastern give you an opportunity? Continue the legacy by giving back to the University and supporting the generations to come. Eastern was founded with philanthropy. In 1882, Benjamin P. Cheney gave $10,000 to create the University. Through the next 100 years, it would transform from a small teaching school to a nationally recognized university.
