September, 2010

Dear Eagle Family,

Game(s) On!
And the year begins . . . as both our volleyball and soccer teams began the season this past weekend.  I am optimistic that both teams will have solid campaigns this year as they each follow-up Big Sky second place finishes in 2009.  Coach Kydd’s volleyball team has been a bit hampered with injury as the year begins but we are hopeful that we will be back to full strength when conference matches begin in a couple of weeks.  Coach Hageage’s team, meanwhile, returns a number of all league performers including high scoring senior, Brittany Sparks.  One of the highlights of this year’s schedule will be a home match versus Southern California on Sunday, September 26 at Noon.

The rest of the fall teams (cross country and football) will begin in September.  The highlight of the cross country season will no doubt be when we host the Big Sky Championships on Saturday, October 30 at the Fairways Golf Course.

On to Reno
Coach Baldwin and his third year football team will open the season on Thursday, September 2 in Reno against the Wolfpack of Nevada.  This game came about last winter as we were originally slated to play Oregon State, but OSU had an opportunity to play TCU in Dallas on the same weekend. So after some negotiating, we settled on playing Nevada instead of the Beavers. As part of the deal, we will now play in Corvallis in 2013.

Eagles on the Radio
We are extremely happy to call ESPN 700 our new home for both football and men’s basketball.  One of the exciting features of us moving to “The Ticket” was the ability to be on one consistent station which should serve all Eagle fans very well for the next three years.  In addition, we will also have a football and basketball coaches show weekly on ESPN 700.  Coach Baldwin’s show will be each Monday at 6:00 p.m. right after the Patchin, Osso and Wingman Radio Show and will be live at the Q Restaurant at Northern Quest in Airway Heights beginning on Monday, August 30 and running through the football season.  This additional media platform is tremendously exciting for everyone here at Eastern.

Congratulations Larry!!
Larry Weir will begin his 20th season calling Eagle football games this year.  Larry has done a tremendous job over the years and he again will team with Paul Sorensen to call all the action.

Thank You but We Need More of You!!
Season tickets sales for football are at record highs but as we close in on the 2010 home season I would love to see even more Eagles in the stands than ever before.  Please call our ticket office today at 509-359-4339 and get your seats at the soon to be rededicated, Roos Field.

Red Turf Update and Rededication Event on September 16
The field is done and it looks great!!!  Thanks to everyone who made it possible.  We plan to have a Rededication Event on Thursday, September 16 from 3:15-3:45 p.m. followed by a 30-minute “Open Turf” event where anyone can come and go on the field and experience the first and only Red Football Field in the world!  At approximately 4:15 p.m., the football team will hold a practice on the turf and anyone who is inclined to stay will be able to do so from the stands.  In addition, The Patchin, Osso and Wingman Radio Show plans to broadcast live that day from the field – 3:00-6:00 p.m.

Until next month…Go Eagles!!
