Inspiring the Future

July 30, 2014

In the coming days the university will transition over to a new president, and with that will come fresh ideas and new initiatives. However, as many of you know through her introduction, Dr. Mary Cullinan is committed to keeping the university focused on the core goals set forth in the EWU Strategic Plan, Inspiring the Future.

Many of you have contributed a lot of hard work as we've implemented the first two years of the plan. The representation and input of faculty, staff and students reflect a universitywide commitment to student success.

Work is already underway as we prepare for the third annual Strategic Plan Conference, set for Oct. 2-3 here on campus. The university will once again celebrate the outstanding progress made during the first two years of this process, and look ahead to the year-three action plan.

This year's keynote speakers at the campuswide luncheon will be Dr. John Gardner and Dr. Betsy Barefoot from the John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education. They will also participate in a number of activities we have planned for the two-day conference.

I have had many discussions with President Cullinan, and I'm pleased that she is committed to moving forward on our four clearly defined goals, or themes, which serve as our road map: Student Success, Institution of Innovation, Community Engagement and Visibility.

It has been my privilege to serve as your president and launch this vital endeavor that will serve Eastern for years to come. And I’m happy that President Cullinan will continue to make Inspiring the Future a critical part of EWU's mission.
