Hold or Recall an Item
Library users may request most circulating EWU Library materials that are either currently checked out or that were not found on the shelf. They may do so in two ways: 1) by completing a materials request card at the Circulation Desk or 2) by placing a hold online on an item found in the Library catalog.
EWU students, faculty, and staff may also electronically request available library materials from EWU's library catalog, or from Summit, the catalog of the Orbis Cascade Alliance (a consortium of thirty-plus academic libraries in Washington and Oregon). Click on the "Request Item" button in either catalog. EWU materials may be picked up at JFK Library or Riverpoint Campus Library. Summit items can be delivered to any EWU location (Cheney, Spokane or Bellevue), usually within a few days.
When the item you have requested is available, the library will notify you by mail, or by email if you have elected to receive your library notices via email.
Borrowed library materials are subject to recall at any time. For example, if a library user requests an item that is currently checked out to someone else, that item may be recalled. The library gives the person who currently has the item no fewer than seven days to return it. (Material recalled for placement on reserve may be recalled sooner, however, due to urgent demand.)
The library system automatically revises the due date of the recalled item, to reflect the seven-day return period. A recall notice, stating the item has been recalled and the due date has been revised, is sent to the current borrower.
Recalled items that are returned after the revised due receive higher fines.
